Welcome to my website! My name is Mrs. Claire Bush. I graduated with a degree in Biology from Loyola Marymount University. I also pursued graduate studies in tropical marine biology in the Caribbean and enrolled in LMU's inaugural Environmental Engineering Masters' program. I have been teaching at Visitation since 2003. Subjects varied to include P.E., ELA, Math, and Science, as well as coaching different levels of volleyball and track and field. I am also a proud parent of two Visitation alumni (Classes of 2006 and 2009).
I strive to instill a passion for and stewardship of science and all of God's creatures through my curriculum. All grades study many overlapping concepts as they progress through junior high school. Traditionally, each grade focuses on one of three areas. Sixth grade begins by studying the world in which we live and attempt to protect, in Earth Science. In seventh grade they move to learn more about what makes up the entire world with the structure of cells along with the structure of the most basic parts of themselves, DNA through their study of Life Science. Rounding out their junior high science education, eighth grade focuses on Physical Science, turning to the bonds that hold everything together in chemistry and the forces that tear it apart in physics.
The junior high science program will explore the concepts of earth/planetary, life, and physical science according to the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) philosophy, in order to follow the guidelines laid out by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This will be accomplished by implementing a new science program called STEMscopes, an entirely digital, online program. All the classes also work collaboratively among all three grade levels on the EcoSchool project. For more information regarding any of these topics please visit the other pages of my website, my classwork site, as well as all the links to useful and relevant sites on my "Useful Links" page.
Feel free to contact me regarding any questions you may have. I can be reached at my Visitation email: [email protected].
